I get a lot of flak for not supporting the global warming scare enough. I try to explain that I really am all about cutting emissions, switching to alternative energy, and especially research on both. However, I am still unwilling to go back to a life without air conditioning, automobiles, efficiently made and packaged foods, and even electricity.

Global warming is real enough, but we have only been measuring temperature for a hundred years and CO2 levels for half of that. Real global temperature readings still need to come from satellites, and anthropogenic studies. This is because surface observation points have been moved into cities, or to airports (where it's obviously hotter), or cities have grown around them. The data we have is sparse, and it is impossible to tell where we are in the natural cycle.

This being said, why is it a bad thing to curb our emissions? Shouldn't we keep doing the research that made us realize how horrible Styrofoam is? I won't use Styrofoam by the way. What's wrong with trying out wind power?

I recently read a blog post talking about how if Google switched to a black background it would save 750 emergy-c palettemega-watt hours a year. It was an old post, I am behind the times. He had a huge response, so he took it a step further. He designed (or had someone design) a low-wattage color palette and called it emergy-c.

The post got a lot of comments about unintentional consequences and such, but overall I have to conclude that this is a good idea. So, I have adopted a color scheme that is more eco-friendly. It is still a work in progress as I don't know css (cascading style sheets) very well, so it still looks poor. My homepage looks good tho.

I say sudo because I did not adopt the whole color palette. I cannot imagine the whole world wide web looking the same, but a little darker could not hurt.
